Emergency Info For Your Braces

We are here to assist you! Please let us know if you are experiencing any issues and we will let you know how to best address it. Most orthodontic emergencies can be taken care of at home until an appointment can be made in the office. Check out the list below for some helpful tips:

The feeling of discomfort or soreness during orthodontic treatment is entirely normal!

You may experience some discomfort of the teeth during chewing or biting. This will usually subside 2-3 days after the orthodontic appointment. We recommend you take whatever you normally would for a headache.

Your lips, tongue and cheeks may take some time to adjust to the braces as well. You can place wax over the braces in order to protect the tissues in your mouth from irritation. You may also rinse your mouth with warm salt water.

If the end of the wire is poking, place a piece of wax over it until an appointment can be made to cut it. In the meantime, you can take a pencil eraser to push the poking wire out of the way. If the wire is still poking or loose, use a nail clipper or nail scissor that has been sterilized with alcohol to cut the piece.

Please let the office know if a bracket or band becomes loose so we can arrange a time to replace it. If the bracket or band is still attached to the wire, you can leave it in place (add wax if necessary). If the bracket or band or band is not connected anymore, bring it to your next appointment.
